The Bryant Park Corporation and 34th Street Partnership are hiring a full-time Park Operations Director. The award-winning not-for-profit Business Improvement Districts share a mission to improve the quality of the commercial, physical, and public space environments in Midtown Manhattan. The role will be primarily focused on the day-to-day sanitation and management of Bryant Park.
This is a dynamic job with a wide range of responsibilities that vary seasonally and may include, but are not limited to staff management, supervising park and facility maintenance, conducting park inspections, budgeting, and resource management. This role regularly works with other internal departments, as well as externally with city agencies and members of the public. The right candidate will have experience managing a large staff in a fast-paced environment. Additional responsibilities include hiring, training, and evaluating staff, pest control and lawn management, and coordinating event setups.
The Park Operations Director reports to the Vice President of Operations. Office hours are typically 9am-5:30pm, Monday - Friday. Although he or she will report to the executive office of BPC/34SP, this position involves outdoor work and candidates should be comfortable operating in a variety of weather conditions. Due to the nature of managing events and a public space, candidates should also be willing to work regularly on nights and weekends, as well on call during all park hours. This job is fully in-person, with no option for remote work. The starting salary for this role is anticipated to be at least $100,000 which may vary based on skills and experience. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a relevant course of study
- At least 5 years’ work experience in related field
- Management experience
- Strong data collection, data analysis and record keeping abilities
- Outgoing, mature, and assertive, with a “no job too small” attitude
- Demonstrated interest in urban affairs, public spaces, economic development, cultural institutions and/or real estate
- Willingness, desire, and ability to drive projects from concept through execution
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills
- Excellent budget and analytical skills
- Responsible and detail-oriented with excellent observation skills
- Ability to operate park tools and machinery, as well as move park equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work in the United States
Job Duties
- Responsible for the cleanliness and quality of park and its facilities
- Inspects facilities to determine the need for, and to plan for, routine, preventative, urgent or emergency maintenance in a timely manner
- Procures and purchases materials, supplies, tools and equipment as necessary
- Manages inventory and storage across multiple locations
- Supervises, schedules, and assists in recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating 35+ park staff
- Schedules work assignments, provides clear guidelines to staff for project implementation and completion
- Completes administrative reports and attends meetings as needed
- Employee HR and benefit support
- Weekly payroll, resource, and budget management
- Models excellence through meticulous park upkeep and high-quality visitor engagement
- Actively coordinates event setups and maintenance needs between various internal departments and a busy park
- Collaborate with Park Supervisors, Head of Horticulture, security and events teams to monitor weather, park closures, and snow removal
- Serves as the primary link between the park’s site operations and cross-disciplinary office staff
- Regularly reflects on potential improvements to the park, the operations team and the Park Operations Director role, and works to find solutions and implement innovations

The Receptionist / Office Manager / Research Assistant serves an integral role in the office, supporting the daily operations of Bryant Park Corporation and 34th Street Partnership. This individual’s primary responsibilities include handling incoming calls and responding to emails from the public; facilitating meetings, including weekly all-staff meetings; ordering office supplies and maintaining common areas; tracking operational data; presenting narrative and statistical reports; tracking relevant local legislation and public offices; attending meetings with senior staff, stakeholders, and partners; and assisting with operational needs in the park and district.
This is a growth-oriented position with opportunities for advancement. Responsibilities within the companies will be added to this position if the individual demonstrates initiative, growth, and proficiency in their tasks. These additional responsibilities may include conducting various research projects, managing recurring public programs, and facilitating communication with the public.

An ideal candidate would have a demonstrated interest in urban studies, public spaces, program and event management, economic development, and/or real estate, as there are opportunities for advancement related to these fields within the organization.
The salary for this role is $47,000-$52,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Benefits such as health insurance are included.

Bryant Park Corporation and 34th Street Partnership seek seasonal, part-time Public Programming Assistants (PPAs) to work as ushers at free public events and programs. PPAs work under the supervision of Program Managers and Front of House Managers. PPAs can expect to assist with the onsite implementation of a wide range of programs, including: literary events; music, dance, and theater performances; children’s events; fitness classes, and more events to be determined. This is not an event planning role, but rather an implementation role. Programs take place in Bryant Park, Herald Square, Greeley Square, Plaza33, and other public plazas in the 34th Street Partnership district.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience at events large and small while working for two organizations that are dedicated to making New York City safer, cleaner, more beautiful, and more engaging. PPAs can expect to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the event production and public space management fields. PPAs are expected to uphold the mission of creating a rich and dynamic cultural, visual, and intellectual outdoor experience for New Yorkers and visitors alike in some of the most visible public spaces in the world.
Duties include
- Execute public programs and activities in the parks, including equipment setup, communication with instructors and/or performers, crowd management, and supervision of the event
- Serve as a park ambassador and interact with visitors politely and patiently while enforcing park rules
- Troubleshoot logistical event issues and manage accordingly
- Coordinate with other park staff for event setup and breakdown
- Document events by conducting attendance counts and taking photos as needed
- Prepare timely reports on event execution for Program Managers
- Prepare materials for upcoming events, including helping trim and laminate informational signage
- Fulfill administrative duties, including data entry, as needed and as scheduling allows
- Occasionally prepare for events by removing furniture, placing chairs in rows, and arranging barricades, stanchions, and signage
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- Experience in event staffing, retail and/or customer service preferred
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in most weather conditions
- Possess a “no job too small” attitude, willing to get hands dirty to produce a successful result
- Ability to maintain high energy and friendly attitude throughout entire shift
- Flexibility to work non-traditional/irregular hours – many events take place in evenings and on weekends
- Responsible, proactive, collaborative, and outgoing
- Possess strong communication and observational skills
- Ability to think critically about successes and flaws of an event
- Ability to take direction, but also problem-solve individually as needed
- Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and stay on feet for extended periods of time (5+ hours)
- Interest in event planning, production, recreation, and/or public space management is preferred
- Experience with audio equipment is preferred
- Four-year college degree, completed or in progress, is preferred
Availability
- Applicants must be available to work from late April through September (exact dates are flexible)
- Applicants can expect to work a range of irregular shifts as the event schedule dictates
- Ideal applicants have consistent evening and/or weekend availability
- The position may suit those looking to supplement a part-time job. PPAs may work anywhere between 15 - 35 hours per week.
This is an in-person job which cannot be performed remotely.
Compensation is $18 per hour. Hours worked on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day will be paid at an overtime rate. Overtime is not otherwise anticipated.
PPAs must maintain a polished professional appearance, which includes wearing the provided uniform shirt, following the dress code, and keeping jewelry to a minimum.
